Over the years many people have painted the tanker and the only way to get it looking right was to strip all the layers back and re paint. The tank needed some repairs as being left outside for 70+ years had taken its toll. Some corrosion had to be repaired especially around the areas of the tank straps. The tank also had to be lifted off its cradle to allow new rubber mounts to be fitted.

During the war many different colour schemes had been used and often applied at the station.  Later on they usually just had a green coat of paint. Luckily I couldn't get it too wrong as it looks like no official pattern was ever used so we just did what would look right.
